No-Fly Zones Of Iraq And President Bush

"But the Iraqis were shooting at our [fighter jets] patrolling the no-fly zones. That's a clear violation!"

The Iraqis were shooting at us but the no-fly zones were never part of the UN sanctions. The no-fly zones were zones that we, along with the British, imposed on Iraq on our own, therefore illegal by international law.

Imagine the Russians and the Chinese unilaterally declaring our Eastern and Pacific time zones to be no-fly zones to our aircraft, and patrolling them with their Migs. Would we not try to shoot them down, and have the right to do so?
