"Ok, George Bush has been [disappointing], but I think John Kerry will be even worse. He flip flops."

Senator John Kerry does, but what about President George Bush? Wasn't George Bush pro-free trade in 2001, then anti-free trade on steel in 2002, then became pro-free trade on steel too this year? Didn't George Bush recently say on radio that the war on terror couldn't be won, caught flak from both the Democrats and the Republicans, then reverse himself? Let's face it, all politicians "flip flop" to one degree or another, and George Bush IS a politician.

Will John Kerry be worse than George Bush? That is not an easy question to answer since we know George Bush's performance but can only guess at John Kerry's. To compare like for like, however, let's set John Kerry aside for a moment and compare George Bush's performance over the last 3.5 years to those of his predecessors: (A) 1920s was the last time a President left the country with fewer jobs than upon inauguration; (B) in 3 years, George Bush turned the nation's largest-ever budget surplus into the largest-ever budget deficit - $440 billion equates to $44,000 for every American household; (C) our national debt is now at an all-time high; (D) George Bush is the only President in our history to have invaded a foreign country for a false reason.

Now to John Kerry. While we don't have his performance as a President, we do have his performance as a father, an officer and a Senator. His daughters vouch for John Kerry having flown home on weekends to raise them instead of hobnobbing in Washington. The men who followed John Kerry into battles vouch for his leadership under enemy fire. And the people who put John Kerry in the Senate once chose to put him back there for 3 more terms.

Frankly, we are not excited about John Kerry. But his is not the track record of someone who takes responsibilities lightly. There's nothing in his track record to indicate that John Kerry's performance as a President would be worse than that of George Bush. In fact, it is tough to even imagine what that would be like. How do you top invading another country for a false reason?
