Discussion "Why do you think so many Christians support President Bush?"We think there are three reasons. First, many simply don't know the fact. It is embarrassing that 50% think we found WMD in Iraq and 68% think Saddam was behind 9/11. Second, most have blindly accepted and repeat what they hear on radio or television without thinking it through on their own. Third, they are scared and frustrated by the decline of Christianity in America and associate President Bush's hold on the White House with Christians' hold on the country. To be clear, we would LOVE to have a President who cites God as the source of his wisdom then bears fruit that brings honor to the Lord's Holy name. We can "put up" with a President who doesn't cite God and doesn't bear good fruit. But what we cannot accept is a President who cites God as the source of his wisdom then bears fruit that actually dishonors the Lord's name. Our focus shouldn't be on protecting President Bush. Ultimately, it shouldn't even be on protecting ourselves. It should be on glorifying the Holy name of our Lord Jesus Christ. When we step aside from the rhetoric filling the airwaves and take a quiet moment to ask ourselves, "Have President Bush's ACCOMPLISHMENTS over the last 4 years glorified or dishonored Jesus, whom he cites as the source of his wisdom?", the answer is both sobering and disappointing. Regarding the decline of Christianity in America today, while its acceleration is appalling, we need to remind ourselves of two things. For one, this decline is ultimately spiritual in nature and as such, its reversal will be spiritual, not political. Our country will be far better served if the millions of Christians campaigning for President Bush today instead kneel in prayer and cry out to the Lord to bring true repentance and revival to this land.
